We acquired Antonio (Tony) and hoped to produce a lot more color out of our white and light herd. So far he has given us a beige female cria (Vivianne) and a light brown female cria (Baeleigh), both out of white dams who have given us white cria before this, so we are very pleased!
He has serviced Kaeleigh, Joeleigh, and Annie for cria born in the fall of 2025! He seems quite potent. Kaeleigh's cria was a white female, Joeleigh's cria is a light fawn female, and Annie's cria is a medium fawn female. He can definitely throw color and REALLY proved it in 2026 with the birth of Hielander, a gorgeous dark brown boy out of a light fawn mama! This color in the U.S. registered herd is under 7%, so rather rare.
He has very excellent fleece characteristics for being a true black, shown by his 2025 EPD (which I listed under histogram in the sidebar).
One spinner who bought his fleece could not believe the fineness of Antonio's fleece for his age (15 years old) at 20.6 micron with a comfort factor of 97%. That is quite amazing. And it appears he's giving these same characteristics of LINGERING FINENESS to his babies.
His 2025 EPD (out of 32,812 alpacas in the EPD program) shows these remarkable stats for his remarkable fleece:
TOP 23% for average fiber diameter.
TOP 25% for standard deviation of average fiber diameter.
TOP 20% for spin fineness.
TOP 15% for percentage of fiber over 30 micron (i.e., he does NOT have a large % over 30 micron).
TOP 22% for fleece weight.
THIS GUY IS 15 YEARS OLD and STILL has a GRADE 2 (BABY/SUPER FINE) fleece!!
Use him on your girls for a finer fleece with color! He has certainly done that for our herd.
